Christmas 2008

From making cookies to visiting great-grandparents (and their dog, Maggie) it was all
good. Of course EATING the cookies was fun too. and OPENING the presents was much
better than just looking at them.

Babysitting before Christmas

I gave Darcy a magnifying glass that I had used in Biology class. She said (and I quote) "This is the best tool I've ever had." and proceeded to exam everything she could find in the house.
I'm not sure the cat liked it so much. Anyway it did keep her entertained most of the day and
I told her a microscope had to be next.
The boys were more interested in doing the "cannonball" off the coffee table onto my stomach.
I tried hard to discourage this but that just seemed to fuel their desire to do it more. Finally
they gave out of steam and laid down on their sofa. For about 5 minutes.
I do not know how my DIL survives day after day of this. But I do love them dearly. I just wish
I had some of their energy. Also I think a bit of Christmas is in the air (I know Darcy is very aware of this anyway. Tonight she offered to come over and help wrap her presents from us. Now how thoughtful is that?)

Christmas is Coming

From the celebration at my mother's house (and it was her Happy Birthday as well!) to the next week of putting up OUR tree complete with the new Polar Express Train (much to the delight of the 3 little grandchildren...the twins just wanting to crash the train and Darcy wanting to drive the train...she did a very good job too!)...it was much fun.
We went back for a brief visit with Paw Paw later and Jeremiah LOVED Nonnie's color changing tree. He stood and just went, "Red...Green...Purple..." as the lights changed colors. Jacob entertained Paw Paw with his "car". They had a good visit with their great-grandfather.
(Aslan will be happy when the excitement dies back down. It is wearing him out!)

Vulcan

For the Anne George Fans (all others need not even ask). Okay some on the SHS list may ask but if you are reading the list you may have seen the post from Dorothy in England showing some Vulcan plane that she thought was lovely. Now everyone knows Birmingham in the U.S.A. has the only Vulcan worth mentioning. So I offer you now the proof..
He is the largest cast iron statue in the world and the most buff (or so Ms. George used to
write in her mystery novels. She seemed to enjoy some views better than others. smiles.
I and all other Birmingham, Southern Sister's fans, miss her.)
smiles, Chris

Thanksgiving a bit late

Turkey, dressing, collard greens, fried corn, cranberry sauce and a happy family. All good! We were all thankful.
Chris
And the turkey was excellent! Aslan

The Grandkids (again)

We babysat - and got the kids a nativity set of their own. Of course Papa D had to stack all
the Wise Men on top of each other and Jacob just didn't think they went that way in the story.
(as you can see in his eyes!). Jeremiah would play with those gears all night long - he loves
them. And I read to Darcy. It was a nice evening. (And I just played with the sepia tones
on the computer - the close ups were way too bright so the sepia setting fixed that.)
I love the shot of Jeremiah getting a hug from his daddy.
