"Creed" by Steve Turner

Turner's Creed
An excerpt from Ravi Zacharias' book "Can Man Live Without God?" Steve Turner says "No!"...But we try all the time....

Creed
by Steve Turner

We believe in Marxfreudanddarwin
We believe everything is OK
as long as you don't hurt anyone
to the best of your definition of hurt,
and to the best of your knowledge.

We believe in sex before, during, and
after marriage.
We believe in the therapy of sin.
We believe that adultery is fun.
We believe that sodomy’s OK.
We believe that taboos are taboo.

We believe that everything's getting better
despite evidence to the contrary.
The evidence must be investigated
And you can prove anything with evidence.

We believe there's something in horoscopes
UFO's and bent spoons.
Jesus was a good man just like Buddha,
Mohammed, and ourselves.
He was a good moral teacher though we think
His good morals were bad.

We believe that all religions are basically the same-
at least the one that we read was.
They all believe in love and goodness.
They only differ on matters of creation,
sin, heaven, hell, God, and salvation.

We believe that after death comes the Nothing
Because when you ask the dead what happens
they say nothing.
If death is not the end, if the dead have lied, then its
compulsory heaven for all
excepting perhaps
Hitler, Stalin, and Genghis Kahn

We believe in Masters and Johnson
What's selected is average.
What's average is normal.
What's normal is good.

We believe in total disarmament.
We believe there are direct links between warfare and
bloodshed.

Americans should beat their guns into tractors .
And the Russians would be sure to follow.

We believe that man is essentially good.
It's only his behavior that lets him down.

This is the fault of society.
Society is the fault of conditions.
Conditions are the fault of society.

We believe that each man must find the truth that
is right for him.
Reality will adapt accordingly.
The universe will readjust.
History will alter.

We believe that there is no absolute truth
excepting the truth
that there is no absolute truth.

We believe in the rejection of creeds,
And the flowering of individual thought.

If chance be
the Father of all flesh,
disaster is his rainbow in the sky
and when you hear
State of Emergency!
Sniper Kills Ten!
Troops on Rampage!
Whites go Looting!
Bomb Blasts School!

It is but the sound of man
worshipping his maker.

How Math Explains the World: A Guide to the Power of Numbers, from Car Repair to Modern Physics How Math Explains the World: A Guide to the Power of Numbers, from Car Repair to Modern Physics by James D. Stein

My review

rating: 3 of 5 stars
NOT light reading but a good read for Math/Science.

I thought it would be helpful for teaching Math next year but I have found better History of Math books. I did find a wealth of quotes I liked though and some thought provoking chapters. Of course Math doesn't explain ALL of life/the world. Like why my internet connection breaks down at the most inconvenient times or why some people dislike cats. Random things. Of course the people who want to win in Las Vegas should understand probability. And we all need to know how to balance the checkbook and pay taxes. Soon we can just send the paycheck to Washington and be done with it..

I liked the chapters on Quantum physics but I'm weird that way. Most won't like those chapters.

Amy's Bridal Tea

Amy was the perfect Bride to be...
And the hostesses were great - Toni is lovely.
And Mandii is very pregnant.
I just pray she lasts until AFTER the wedding...
Darcy was a bit befuddled that all the gifts were for Aunt Amy.
And the cake and punch was great but the cheese
was not so good (according to Darcy).

I have got to lose weight. Got to!

The new in laws were wonderful. We hit it off immediately.
They LOVE LOVE books. So they definitely fit right in.
And they wanted to try "Southern Food" afterwards so we did
the best we could - we went to Fish Market and they had (well, duh,
fish) fried okra, fried green tomatoes, hush puppies (who knew they
don't do hush puppies in NYC?), sweet tea, and a few assorted other
goodies. It was fun! We all had a great time.

Many of Amy's friends are artists and I was amazed at some of their
creative gifts. I shall have to take photos and post them. Next time..

Has the Supreme Court Joined Osama?

"America is at war with radical Islamists. The enemy began by killing Americans and American allies abroad: 241 at the Marine barracks in Lebanon, 19 at the Khobar Towers in Dhahran, 224 at our embassies in Dar es Salaam and Nairobi, and 17 on the USS Cole in Yemen. See National Commission on Terrorist Attacks upon the United States, The 9/11 Commission Report, pp. 60–61, 70, 190 (2004). On September 11, 2001, the enemy brought the battle to American soil, killing 2,749 at the Twin Towers in New York City, 184 at the Pentagon in Washington, D. C., and 40 in Pennsylvania. See id., at 552, n. 9. It has threatened further attacks against our homeland; one need only walk about buttressed and barricaded Washington, or board a plane anywhere in the country, to know that the threat is a serious one. Our Armed Forces are now in the field against the enemy, in Afghanistan and Iraq. Last week, 13 of our countrymen in arms were killed.

The game of bait-and-switch that today’s opinion plays upon the Nation’s Commander in Chief will make the war harder on us. It will almost certainly cause more Americans to be killed."

Justice Scalia dissented.

The terrorists (NOT U.S. citizens btw) now have habias corpus rights.
Will ALL prisoners of war in future conflicts get these same rights?
Can you even imagine the number of lawyers this is going to require?
We are going to need more Law schools! (Yeah, just what we need..)
I THOUGHT the Constitution was for U.S. citizens but I guess I was
mistaken.

I fear for our country.

Where Amy is at now

http://www.carriagehousepaper.com/

I keep getting asked.
This is the place - Brooklyn, NY. She's safe.
This looks like it's right up her alley. I'm SURE she is
having fun.

Questions

"This was the moment – this was the time – when we came together to remake this great nation." Barack Obama as he reached the numbers to make him the
Democratic nominee

"My friends, we live in the greatest nation in the history of the world. I hope you'll join with me as we try to change it." Internet saying attributed to Obama
but not really said by him from early in the campaign.

Hum - maybe he did say it. Contrast these two. Aren't they saying the
same thing??

If it's a great nation why do we need to "remake it"?
